You can pick up the Explorers in great condition it looks like for under $2,000 all day long. Furthermore the insurance is probably stupid cheap on them because it is almost a 25 year old SUV. You might even be able to get classic car plates on them. This is after all my favorite movie car of all time.

The hard part would be finding the correct brush guard and rear tail light guards to go with it. It can’t be that hard to paint an Explorer right? Or even get a wrap. The hard part would be the glass roof but that could come later

The green to yellow transition seems a bitch to get painted right if you ask me.. But yeah, painting a car isn’t that hard.

I want a Jurassic Park ML, but those have so many unique modifications that it's difficult to source parts.

Just pointing this out, the brush guard on the one in the first pic is wrong. That very top bar shouldn’t be there and the lights should be mounted higher up. But if you wanted to make one, the brush guards are apparently very hard to find. Might have to make your own.

There’s one in my town that I’ve only caught a glimpse of once or twice. It was only partially painted up, so it’s either a half-assed job or a WIP. I wish I had a picture.

They are incredibly hard to find which is why I would settle for a brush guard like the one on the top. Not perfect but close

Partially painted? What part did they not paint?

Yeah that green to yellow would be difficult to paint I would have to practice a few times before getting it right

Cut that very top bar off and you’d be good. Honestly, most wouldn’t notice the difference.

The ML would be cool too but those do have a lot more unique modifications that would probably make it even more difficult

That top bar of lights isn't right either I don't think. I thought the top bar was square but again it is in the spirit of the original so I think it is more or less good enough

I saw a JP Jeep Wrangler last week. It was 100% perfect down to the license plates. Soooo rad!

It’s been a while since I last saw it, but IIRC the front end had the yellow and green, and maybe some of the red applied too. The rest of it was still dark blue. No signage yet, but it was obvious what kind of look they were going for. It still needed a lot of work, though. I can only hope they’ve made more progress by now.

The JP Wrangler would be good too but those are a lot more expensive! Also not quite as awesome of a paint job

Hopefully because having a JP anything in your home town is just fun

Apparently they were Toyota Land Cruisers in the book, but Ford paid big bucks to have the (then) all-new Explorer featured in the film.

The book doesn’t have a lot of details, but it does mention roof-mounted antennas. It also suggests that the dinosaur logo was blue.
Here’s a pretty well-thought-out fan concept :

Mine came on my land cruiser so they would need new mounts but are otherwise identical

I’ve never seen anyone build one of those with the Plexiglass roof, I’m thinking that part is almost impossible to do. The exact brush guards used in the movie have been out of production for some time, and that’s apparently joined the roof as the second major annoyance in making one of these.
Also, to really sell it, everything has to look brand spanking new and be polished and detailed to perfection.

The roof isn’t impossible I've seen it one at least one on YouTube. Definitely the biggest undertaking. Although would be an issue but the again it doesn't have to be done right away
